Time for Monday Morning Musings, y’all. Let’s do it.
-I spent my Saturday night at Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Rookwood Pavilion awaiting the arrival of Jeff Kinney, the author of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books.
No, not for me.
My girls are more than slightly obsessed. So there we were, with about 1,000 other parents in the same situation. Here’s what I noticed.
-Roughly 1/3 of parents lost their kids for at least 10 minutes. Every one of them was found doing the “Gangnam Style” dance at the DJ booth.
-When said DJ played One Direction, girls ages 5-12 screamed. Boys of all ages moaned.
-Temporary tattoos could be used as currency if kids were in charge.
-Every kid found at least three more things to add to their Christmas list while waiting in line (and isn't that the point?).
-Dads wished there was a beer booth.
It really was a neat event. Well put together, Kinney was as personable as someone can be when trying to sign as many autographs as possible, and my kids thought they met a rock star. Besides, anytime getting a new book is greeted with this much fanfare, count me in.
-Back to that beer issue for a moment…
When my husband and I first dated, we had to go out on dates on weeknights, since I worked weekends.
I remember seeing a family at a restaurant – again, on a Tuesday night – where the mom ordered a glass of wine and dad got a beer.
And the only thing I could think of was – this would NEVER happen in the South.
Well, it went one step further this weekend.
There we were at lunch at one of our favorite Sunday afternoon restaurants when my husband pointed out two middle-aged women drinking draft beers. At 11:30 a.m.
No way is that happening below the Mason-Dixon line.
-A friend of mine alerted me yesterday that a glitch in her phone erased all of her contacts. All of them. My response to this was to (literally) clutch my pearls. My reaction was so strong that it brought my daughter running in from the other room to see what was wrong.
Seriously, though – I haven’t dialed a full phone number in about five years. I don’t know what I’d do.
Except update my Backup Assistant.
