Some thoughts on a frigid Friday:
-The first 2,500 fans at the Cyclones game tonight get a President Obama bobblehead . And I must say, it’s pretty convincing. But rumor has it that to cover all bases, the Cyclones also had to commission Mitt Romney bobbleheads. Now those are the collectibles.
-My love for television is a much-cataloged affair.
Between DVR and On Demand, I cover a great deal of ground when it comes to TV. I’m an equal opportunity watcher -- comedies, dramas, you name it.
And twice in the last couple of weeks, I’ve watched a couple of shows (The New Normal, Modern Family) that have focused on christening. And more specifically: boys wearing christening gowns.
I’m not sure if it’s a function of growing up in the South, but christening gowns for boys was not only acceptable, but popular.
But these shows focus on how odd it is for a boy to wear a dress, which, in theory, it is. But just like women wearing white at their wedding (whether it’s their first or their third), or co-eds running through campus nearly naked, it’s tradition.
When my kids were christened, my kids wore my father-in-law’s christening gown. So it’s not a completely foreign concept here. I surveyed my co-workers, and they were split about 50/50 about the boys-wearing-gowns tradition.
-Did you see Jimmy Kimmel last night? Kimmel always apologizes to Matt Damon at the end of his show, saying he “ran out of time” and Damon got bumped. Last night, Damon abducted the show , then he stole it. And he brought a whole bunch of his A-list friends. I can’t wait to watch the whole thing.
From Today’s Show:
-Do You Steal Lunch?: Other than someone throwing away tuna remnants in a common garbage can, or -- shall we say – gastrointestinal infractions, having your lunch stolen at work is just about the worst thing a co-worker can do to you. A new survey shows 4.6 percent of people have admitted to stealing lunch from the breakroom fridge because they consider them to be “fair game.” Here are the rest of the results.
-Exercise, Then Eat: Turns out, you’ll burn more calories over the course of the day that way, mainly because people who exercise before breakfast eat less the rest of the day. So, let me help you with your morning routine:
You’re welcome.
