CINCINNATI - There's no shortage of opinions on the fashions the stars were wearing on the Oscar red carpet. But how does that celebrity style play in Cincinnati? We checked with a local design expert.
Margie Voelker-Ferrier is the coordinator of the University of Cincinnati's famed fashion design program and she joined Good Morning Tri-State Monday morning with her picks and pans.
One of the top trends of the night was the movement away from pale, nude dresses, with starlets opting instead for a crisper white or platinum palette.
"I thought the ones that wore black were really tired looking and the really fresh thing was the white/platinum," Voelker-Ferrier said.
She pointed out Octavia Spencer, Milla Jovovich and Gwyneth Paltrow as those who did white right.
"Every line, every detail ... stunning. She made a powerful presence, " she said of Paltrow's Tom Ford dress, complete with cape.
Voelker-Ferrier applauded the return of color, specifically red hues, to the red carpet.
She named Emma Stone as a standout, along with Michelle Williams. Her flowy coral Louis Vuitton also featured a peplum, which we should get used to seeing.
"I loved the peplum. That's going to be big for spring," Voelker-Ferrier said.
As for misses -- she points to a daring Jennifer Lopez, whose peek-a-boo dress she characterizes as "too va-va-voom." Rumors of a J-Lo "wardrobe malfunction," which her handlers deny, don't come as a surprise to Voelker-Ferrier.
"It's sheer between every line, so anything could happen. In fashion, it happens all the time. We just go on," she said.
