LEXINGTON, Ky. - Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari, an avid reader who always has a book at hand, is now sharing his reading recommendations at Coach Cal’s Book Club, The Associated Press reports.

Visitors to his website can check out the tab labeled Coach Cal’s Book Club for lists of books that Calipari has read recently or is reading and recommends to others.

The website says Calipari prefers nonfiction to fiction and favors historical biographies, self-help, motivational and spiritual selections.

Among the titles on  his desk, according to the site, is “Soul Searching: The Journey of Thomas Merton,” by Jonathan Montaldo. Among Calipari’s picks for sports biographies and coaching books is “Bobby Bowden on Leadership: Life Lessons from a Two-Time National Championship Coach,” by Pat Williams with Rob Wilson. “The Killer Angels: The Classic Novel of the Civil War,” by Michael Shaara is among the biography and history books touted at Coach Cal’s Book Club.

The book club has also joined with the Lexington Public Library for fans who are residents of Lexington. Each of the library's six branches has a special shelf just for the book club selections.
