CINCINNATI - The choir from Indonesia that was stranded and missed the World Choir Games started their journey home Tuesday.

The Gema Chandra Cendrawasih University Choir from Papua, Indonesia was scheduled to compete in Folklore and Popular Choral Music categories on July 6 and 7 at the Choir Games, but due to traveling issues didn't arrive until a few hours before the closing ceremonies.

But filled with the urge to sing, the choir stayed past the Games, performed at CVG, for church members at Greater Liberty Church in Madisonville and again at the Duke Energy Convention Center over the weekend.

The choir started receiving donations to the tune of $3,000, including tickets to a Reds game.

They finally left the Tri-State Tuesday, taking a 50-hour bus ride to San Francisco and then catching a plane back to Indonesia.

"We'll be happy because we are never going to America," choir-member Dorthea Junita Worhel said. "Especially for Cincinnati this is the first time, and I think we're going to be happy because we can see some place that we have never been there."

A few tears were shed, but that didn't stop them from singing and dancing.
