CINCINNATI - For the first time in the history of the World Choir Games, Barbershop and Show Choir style groups will be competing for the gold.

The two groups were added in time for the 2012 games.

Barbershop choirs sing in a four-harmony A capella style. Show Choirs perform choreographed Pop, Rock and Broadway style songs.

Several local choirs are performing in both styles of singing.

The Show Cards, from Cincinnati, and Loveland by Request, from Loveland, are competing in The Show Choir Champions Competition Thursday at 9:45 a.m. at the Aronoff Center.

At 11 a.m. at Music Hall, Cincinnati-based groups Voice of America Chorus, Delta Kings Chorus, Gateway Summer Youth Chorus and Sound Effects will compete in The Barbershop Open Competition.

Choraliers from Fairfield with face The McAuley & LaSalle High School Show Choir from Cincinnati at 1:15 p.m. They're competing in The Show Choir Champions Competition at the Aronoff Center.

At 3:30 p.m., Cincinnati Sound Chorus will compete against the Southern Gateway Chorus from Mason in the Barbershop Champions Concert at Music Hall.

Flex passes for Thursday's competitions have sold out.
