After talking to the Kardashians last year and the cast of "Jersey Shore" the year before that, Barbara Walters' list of 2012's "Most Fascinating People" was notably reality show-free.
Walters' 90-minute special, which is now in its 20th season, aired Wednesday, Dec. 12 on Channel 9. The list included:
The No. 1 "Most Fascinating" person on the list was retired American military officer and public official David Petraeus, who resigned as director of the CIA in November when details of his extramarital affair with the author of his biography, Paula Broadwell, came to light.
Other people who made the list include:
"Fifty Shades of Grey" author E.L. James
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (who made quite the splash in his "Saturday Night Live" cameo and election appearances)
Boy band One Direction
Gold-medal-winning Olympic gymnast/budding actress/author Gabby Douglas
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
Writer/producer/comedian/singer Seth MacFarlane
And Ben Affleck, who just scored another acting/directing success with "Argo"
