1. MidPoint Music Festival

More than 180 bands from around the world converging on downtown Cincinnati and OTR for a live music celebration will leave you with plenty do to this weekend. But fear not! We've got a guide of all the action, with full schedules and band lists, not to mention some handy-dandy recommendations of where you should be and who you should see.

2. Newport Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest season is almost over in the Tri-State, but you can get one last stein of that beer and one last mouthful of that sauerkraut at Newport on the Levee this weekend.

The Newport Oktoberfest says they will be the “most authentic Oktoberfest in the area,” with live music, happy Bavarian dancing and maybe even a German-style wedding, all under huge fest tents sponsored by German breweries.

New this year is the Great American Beer Run, which canvasses four beer stops celebrating the Queen City’s rich brewing history.

3. Cliftonfest

As part of the fall festival season, come experience the best Clifton has to offer at Cliftonfest. There will be live music the entire weekend as well as many artists showing off their creations.

4. Art After Dark

Are you a fan of wine? How about jazz? And maybe art too? Well come on down to the Cincinnati Art Museum in Mt. Adams for a combo of all three during Impressions of Venice.

A cash bar will dish out cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, while the Chris Comer Trio performs contemporary jazz to set the backdrop of special exhibition.

5. Laugh with the Woods

Like most comedians, Tony Woods had many day jobs before becoming a full-time stand-up. One such job was security guard. Woods’ first assignment was at a bank where he was armed with only a Billy club.

The YWCA hosts “What Women Want: 2012 Town Hall Meeting,” a non-partisan, all-female interactive gathering intended to spark engaged, passionate conversation about the most important civic issues facing women voters, including health care, racial justice and the economic empowerment.

7. Pandoracon

Cincinnati’s brand new convention, Pandoracon, will appeal to the geek in all of us. Pandoracon is a Cincinnati-exclusive convention, and the celebration of comics, anime, science fiction and everything in between will take place this weekend at the Blue Ash Crowne Plaza Hotel, will feature guest artists, authors, live music, dance and a costume contest masquerade.

8. Dia de los Muertos

With all the hubbub of MPMF, why not add a little rock and roll to your art-going experience? MOTR Pub on Main Street (a MPMF venue, actually co-owned by festival producer Dan McCabe) will feature paintings and Dia de los Muertos masks by Robyn Nomadical Roth, opening this Final Friday.

The artist began painting calaveras (the sugar skulls associated with the Mexican Day of the Dead holiday) in 2008, and has since painted more than 80 masks.
