Cincinnati’s own — and only — purely modern dance ensemble, MamLuft&Co, is kicking off its sixth season. In keeping with its innovative, collaborative spirit, the company joins forces with nontraditional chamber music ensemble concert:nova and Cincinnati Art Museum for an intriguing, two-part concert/art installation experience. First, audiences are invited to check out the CAM’s free, off-site exhibition Doug and Mike Starn: Gravity of Light at the historic Holy Cross Church at the Monastery in Mount Adams, where the dancers will become a living, moving part of the installation.
The wonderfully crumbling environs feature a carbon-arc lamp modeled after an 1804 design and larger-than-life photography as a backdrop to contemporary movement. Next, at the CAM’s Fath Auditorium, audiences take in concert:nova featuring MamLuft&Co. in the multi-faceted “The So-Called Laws of Nature,” which draws inspiration from Gravity of Light. All told, these combined efforts promise to deliver an engaging, multi-sensory experience exploring the impermanence of beauty. See website for times and details.
INFO: Exhibit is free, concert $10-$30. Holy Cross Church, 1055 St. Paul Place, Mount Adams; Cincinnati Art Museum, 953 Eden Park Drive, Mount Adams. mamluftcodance.org/12concertnova .
