Music: Humming House

It’s fitting that “Gypsy Django,” a lively, swinging ode to pioneering “Gypsy Jazz” guitarist Django Reinhardt, is the first song on the debut album by Nashville ensemble Humming House. It’s the song that started it all. A group of musicians who had met at one of singer/songwriter Justin Wade Tam’s Irish music jam sessions were gathered to play “Gypsy Django” for Grammy-winning producer Mitch Dane. The band’s eventual co-producer put the yet-to-be-titled band into the studio immediately to record the track and Humming House was born. The results of that early studio session made it clear that the combination of musicians already had amazing chemistry, so they set work on a full album. Humming House’s just-released debut showcases the group’s contribution to the contemporary Roots music canon, an endearing and infectious mix of Swing, Rockabilly, Country and traditional Irish music that is vintage in its appeal but eclectic and adventurous enough to have its own personality. The group comes to Rohs Street Café McMillan St., Clifton Heights) to perform Saturday at local Indie Folk group Merely the Mocs’ EP release show (go here for more on the Mocs.) 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
