Kaki King’s most recent album, Junior, features song titles like “Everything Has an End, Even Sadness,” “The Betrayer,” “Death Head” and “My Nerves That Committed Suicide.” What’s up, Kaki, forget to take your Prozac? King is often called a Guitar Goddess, which seems reasonable — she has a melodious, seemingly effortless Michael Hedges-esque style — but her songs are more than just vehicles for her technical prowess; they’re also atmospheric, edgy and emotionally involved, the result of a childhood spent in thrall of everything from Fleetwood Mac to British outfits like The Stone Roses.
