Brooklyn’s Chappo had another stellar year in its short lifespan in 2012, the culmination of what has been a fairly meteoric rise in the Indie music world. The trippy, playful Indie Pop four-piece recorded its first EP, Plastique Universe, on its own in 2010, never dreaming that the EP lead-off track, “Come Home,” would wind up in an international iPod Touch ad campaign.
The group returned to its living room to record another EP last year, which helped cement its place as a rising star in the Indie universe. For its debut full-length, Moonwater, Chappo hit a real studio for the first time, Sunhouse Studios in Vermont. The resultant LP came out through Shout! Factory’s Majordomo label this spring; the group members say they signed with the catalog label’s new music imprint to retain creative control (the label is also home to acts like The Airborne Toxic Event, Earlimart and The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion). Chappo is doing one more short victory lap tour (with pals Monogold) before the end of year.
