Guinness technically isn’t an aphrodisiac, but oysters are. With the two combined on top of a few shots of Jameson Irish Whiskey, it’s a safe bet that folks who attend the Guinness Oyster Festival on Fountain Square will have an exceptionally hot Saturday night — if they’re able to make it back to their bed.
In celebration of Irish heritage and tradition, local restaurants offer a selection of raw and cooked oyster dishes that attendees can suck down in between tall glasses of black beer. The event also features Celtic merchandise, a create you own Bloody Mary bar and live musical performances through the afternoon and evening by Iolite, The Unlucky Charms, The Ready Stance, Buckra, The Kreelers and Duppy a Jamba.
Finally, the second annual oyster eating contest will be held at 4:30 p.m. Bring a beverage to help wash them down quickly and claim sweet victory.
The festival runs noon-11 p.m. Saturday. No admission fee.
