The Mayerson JCC Jewish and Israeli Film Festival will open with a special presentation of the film "Hava Nagila," a humorous documentary showing a different side of the famous Jewish party song by the same name. Mazel tov! The film features interviews with Connie Francis, Leonard Nemoy, Harry Belafonte and Regina Spektor (this article’s “hip and happenin’” rating just doubled with that name) as well as others telling the story of one of Judaism’s most universally known songs.
The film festival takes place Feb. 9-28, with screenings, panels and other special events spread across different Cincinnati theaters including The Cincinnati Museum Center, Esquire Theatre, Kenwood Theatre, Mariemont Theatre and the Mayerson JCC. The opening night festivities will conclude with desserts, a photo booth and free admission to the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit. 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9. Opening night tickets $36-$40; festival passes $65-$75. Cincinnati Museum Center, 1301 Western Ave., Queensgate. mayersonjcc.org .
