Art: Findlay Market - Heart of the City

The Museum Center's almost-secret gallery (the Ruthven gallery, in the basement, near the Children's Museum) breaks out with interesting exhibitions pretty regularly. Next up: "Findlay Market – Heart of the City" opens Saturday with all the stuff you never knew about the oldest public market in Ohio (founded 1855) and might not guess, given its vitality today.

Why is it called Findlay? Are there multi-generational merchant families? Who used to shop there, and who shops now? How has it functioned as a public political forum, and does it still? Where were other Cincinnati street markets and what happened to them? The exhibition will fill you in on all that, with portraits of General James Findlay and his wife Jane, historic photographs and recent ones in a silent slide show media piece, various historic artifacts and a timeline putting it all in context.
