Owenton, Kentucky (January 29, 2009; 12:30 p.m.) - After a peak of nearly 18,000 members without power, Owen Electric crews continue to make progress in restoring electric service throughout Boone, Campbell, Carroll, Gallatin, Grant, Kenton, Owen, Pendleton, and Scott counties. Currently, approximately 12,000 members remain without power.
The outages come as a result of continuing cold temperatures and severe icy conditions. In weather such as this, hazardous situations can develop; these include interruptions in electric service and/or downed power lines as a result of fallen tree limbs, etc.
Although a definite time frame for power to be fully restored cannot be determined at this time, it is estimated that clean-up and restoration will take at least a couple of days.
Thirty addition crewmen from other electric co-ops and contractors arrived early Thursday morning (1/29) to assist Owen Electric crews; the restoration is expected to last into Friday and Saturday (1/30-1/31).
We recommend that if you have health or comfort concerns that you make arrangements to move to a place that may be more suitable with electricity available.
