RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) - The National Weather Service says a deadly tornado that tore through two Kentucky counties and killed two people last week reached EF-3 strength.

The twister touched down in eastern Garrard County Friday afternoon around 4:55 p.m. EDT and traveled northeast. The weather service says in a statement that it increased to EF-2 strength before crossing into Madison County, damaging homes along the way.

It reached EF-3 intensity near the intersection of Ky. 1295 and Ky. 52 in Madison County, where it picked up a mobile home and killed two people. The bodies were found in a nearby pond.

The weather service says the tornado touched land for about 20 minutes and traveled 22 miles.
