Whenever the Ohio River rises to threaten Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati, it's not long before the flood of 1937 comes up.

All floods are measured against that colossal event when the river surged to 79.99 feet, the highest in recorded history in Cincinnati, covered one-sixth of the city and caused the Suspension Bridge to sway violently.

By Sunday, the river is expected to rise to 52.2 feet -- just above its 52-foot flood stage -- pale in comparison to the great flood.

WCPO's Kay Barksdale saved a pictorial souvenir edition of The Cincinnati Post that shows just how high the river was 71 years ago.

Take a look at the photo slideshow to see for yourself.
