It's the fault of the coach because he's the adult in charge, therefore he is responsible for the well being of all children on his team.

I do not believe the coach should be charged with anything. Having said that, I do believe it is possible for a coach to push his players too far. No teen athlete wants to seem weak by saying they need to rest. Coach pushes and they do their best to give him what he wants. But I can't help but point out that if schools and families didn't idolize sports so much it wouldn't likely come to this. Be clear, I am NOT saying that high school sports should be done away with. Nor am I trying to deny that the are and should be a large part of school life. But there needs to be a line drawn that makes sure no one forgets that sports are, after all, just games. No one should push any child so hard that they wind up dying from heat exhaustion. Maybe if all those hard core sports fanatical mom's and dad's out there would make sure their kids - and their kids' schools - knew that their sports weren't ever to be the be all and end all of their existence then this sort of thing wouldn't have to happen because no one would tolerate a coach or sports program that pushed teenagers like they were pros.

I agree, of course there is always the blame game. The coach should be completely free of all charges.
