Deerfield Twp. Firefighter Confirmed With Swine Flu

Last Update: 10/12 9:07 pm
DEERFIELD TWP., Ohio -- One paramedic with the Deerfield Township Fire Rescue Department has been placed on medical leave with a confirmed case with the H1N1 virus, also known as the swine flu.

“The health and welfare of our citizens is, and will always be, our top priority.”  “We will continue to implement the safety protocols already in place to ensure that every firefighter, EMT and paramedic who responds to a citizen is free of illness,” said Deerfield Fire Chief Chris Eisele.

Earlier this year, the Deerfield Township Fire Rescue Department reviewed and implemented H1N1 virus infection precautions as mandated by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Because those precautions were in place, this singular case was immediately isolated to prevent spread of the virus to other members of the department or the public.

Chief Eisele also added, “We will continue to implement the safety protocols already in place to ensure that every firefighter, EMT and paramedic who responds to a citizen is free of illness.”
