Last Update: 6/18 1:00 am

Hamilton County is honoring its own civil rights pioneers this weekend.

After going through dozens of nominations, the county is honoring:

  • Dr. Allene Reed, the first African American member of the Board of Realtors.

  • Robert Lee Harris, a longtime teacher and advocate for people with disabilities...

  • Dr. Milton Hinton, who served as president of the Cincinnati branch of the NAACP in the late 1990s.

  • Ms. Shirley Colbert, one of the pioneers of the Model Cities program in the West End more than 40years ago.

  • And, longtime Ohio State Representative William Mallory, Senior.

This weekend, as part of the Reds’ Civil Rights Game festivities, Muhammad Ali, Bill Cosby and Hank Aaron will be honored as Beacon Awards recipients as civil rights icons.

Former President Bill Clinton will be the keynote speaker at a sold-out event at the Duke Energy Center.

9News will have complete coverage of all the events leading up to Saturday night's game between the Reds and Chicago White Sox.
