Two Firefighters Who Gave Their All

Just after 6 a.m. on Friday, April 4, firefighters from the Colerain Township Fire Department were called to a house fire on Squirrelsnest Lane. Working to help the residents inside, crews lost communication with two of their fellow firefighters, who had not made it out.

Fire Captain Robin Broxterman, 37, and firefighter Brian Schira, 29, were killed in the line of duty in the basement of the home.

In the days following the deadly fire, the community mourned the loss and said good-bye to the two Tri-State heroes on Wednesday, April 9 with funeral processions, a mass at St. Peter In Chains Cathedral and burial at Spring Grove Cemetery.

Speculation surrounded the actual cause of the fire, but prosecutors later ruled that the fire began due to an electrical problem with a basement fan.

Thursday, April 17th was declared "Firefighter Appreciation Day" to thank local firefighters for all that they do to keep the community safe and to show appreciation for putting their lives on the line to save those of everyone else.

The community will not forget Captain Robin Broxterman and firefighter Brian Schira and their sacrifice.
