Firefighters remained on the scene of what's left of a large debris fire at McEvoy Park in College Hill for most of the day Saturday.

The fire broke out early Saturday morning before 2:00 a.m.

The park is located on Daly Road, just north of W. North Bend Road.

Debris from the windstorm two weeks ago was picked up from curbsides in surrounding neighborhoods and placed in a huge pile at the Cincinnati city park.

When the fire broke out, the pile of brush, leaves and tree limbs was as tall as one of the fire trucks and approximately 400-feet long by 20-40 feet-wide.

A thermal-imaging camera was used to monitor the dense pile of debris to locate potential hot spots.

Firefighters continued to douse the smoldering debris pile with fire hoses in an attempt to squelch any flareups and expected to be there until daylight, or longer.

They brought in equipment to pull the pile apart to get to the "seat" of the fire and finally extinguish it.

Hours later smoke could still be seen rising from sections of the main debris pile as they were being doused.

A city park board spokesperson told 9News that equipment to shred the storm debris into mulch would arrive possibly by Monday and that had been scheduled before this morning's fire.

The fire remains under investigation.
