Fire chiefs trying to coordinate firefighter efforts in tackling a three-alarm fire in Indian Hill Wednesday night had a new tool at their disposal.
As the massive fire consumed much of the Jaeger home on Cunningham Road, incident commanders directed the firefighting from a mobile command van.
The Hamilton County fire chiefs association bought the van with Homeland Security money.
The Indian Hill fire was the second time the van has been used for an actual fire.
"This unit's able to get the incident commander away from the outside chaos that's going on at a fire scene," said Chief Rick Brown, of the Blue Ash fire department. "The noise, the cutting, the prying, the hose lines and stuff like that."
"It takes the management team inside so they can think in quiet," said Chief Brown.
Cameras mounted inside the unit give commanders a view of the fire that allows them to do their jobs more effectively.
