Final Firefighters Hurt Fighting Indian Hill Fire Released From Burn Unit

Last Update: 7/31/2007 9:38 pm
Two firefighters still hospitalized after being seriously burned fighting a 3-alarm fire in Indian Hill were released from the Burns Unit at University Hospital Monday afternoon.

A total of 12 firefighters were hurt fighting the fire, and six had to be hospitalized from the Madeira and Indian Hill Joint Fire District, officials said.

Six others had minor cuts and sprains and were treated and released.

Of the most seriously injured, four of those firefighters have already had their first follow-up visits and are progressing well.

Long-term treatment options are still being determined for all of them.

Fire Chief Steve Ashbrock said the investigation continues as to the cause of the fire and flashover or backdraft, which he said was the direct cause of most of the firefighter injuries.

The preliminary cause is accidental.
