Most residents of Madeira and Indian Hill have reason to breathe a sigh of relief.

Many of them are pleased the injured firefighters didn't suffer worse burns from the searing "flash over" or "back draft", they survived inside an Indian Hill mansion last night.

There's no big display of emotion here as firefighters carry on their normal duties, while taking out time to see their injured colleagues at University Hospital.

But 9News did see some clear signs how much Madeira and Indian Hill residents care about and worry over their firefighters.

One family put a sign outside the main fire house at Euclid and Miami avenues, asking the injured firefighters to get well soon and calling them heroes because of the job they did last night.

It was easy to see and hear how deeply residents here are affected by the sacrifice they saw firefighters make during Wednesday night's spectacular fire.

Steve Simler of Madeira tells 9News, "It's a great tragedy. I live just a block from a fire house and I see them at Kroger and during the July 4th parades. It kinda hits home."

Meanwhile, Karen Bullock says, "I think it's a great service they're doing for the community."

Her friend, Meredith Rush, who also lives in Madeira, adds, "It's very scary to think something like this could happen to anyone. It could happen just to us. You don't think about it."

All of the people who spoke with 9News say they have high hopes that all the injured firefighters will recover quickly from their burns and be able to get back to their families and jobs quickly.

These injuries aren't just being felt in the communities where the injured firefighters are from.

Firefighters all over the Tri-state are supporting them by visiting the injured at the hospital or even covering fire houses like this one, so firefighters can visit their colleagues.
