Cause of 3-Alarm Indian Hill Fire Listed As "Accidental"

Last Update: 7/27/2007 11:51 pm

The cause of Wednesday's multi-alarm fire in Indian Hill was officially listed as "accidental" on Friday.

Madeira-Indian Hill Fire Chief Steve Ashbrock said the investigation is still focusing on paint stripping on the eaves of the home of Jim Jaeger on Cunningham Road.

"Work of that type was being done in that area within two hours of the fire," Chief Ashbrock said.

The process may have involved the use of a heat gun or torch to remove old paint.

Over 75 firefighters from nearly a dozen fire departments were needed to put out the fire at the Jaeger's home.

Six of them were burned in a flashover or backdraft.

As of Friday afternoon, only two firefighters remained at University Hospital – Chad Higgins of the Madeira-Indian Hill Fire fire department and Matt Rose of Loveland-Symmes fire department.

Drew Foppe and Chad Paris, also from the Madeira-Indian Hill fire department, were able to go home on Friday afternoon.

Jaeger, insurance company representatives and Madeira-Indian Hill fire department officials met Friday morning as salvage work on the 75-year-old house continued.
