LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- Federal aviation safety investigators say there has been unacceptable progress made toward two of their recommendations stemming from a 2006 Kentucky plane crash that killed 49 people.
National Transportation Safety Board Chairman Mark Rosenker informed the Federal Aviation Administration of its findings in a letter obtained Friday by The Associated Press.
NTSB says it has gotten unacceptable responses from the FAA on two recommendations involving checks to make sure planes are on the right runway prior to takeoff. One involves air traffic control checks, and the other cross-checks from inside the cockpit.
The letter found acceptable progress toward two other NTSB recommendations.
Comair 5191 crashed on Aug. 27, 2006, after taking off from the wrong runway at Lexington's Blue Grass Airport. Only one of the 50 people on board survived.
