The US Defense Department says 42-year-old Army First Sergeant Ricky McGinnis, of Hamilton, was killed in Iraq Thursday when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off near where his unit was patrolling.
He was flown to a field hospital where he later died from his wounds.
McGinnis was assigned to the Army's First Calvary Division, based in Ft. Hood, Texas.
