A soldier with Tri-state roots has died this week while serving in Iraq.
29-year-old Sergeant John Edward Cooper was killed while riding in a humvee with three other soldiers near Mosul on January 15. A roadside bomb hit the vehicle during their combat mission, killing all four in the humvee.
Cooper was born in Ripley and moved to Flemingsburg, Kentucky as he was growing up.
Cooper still has many relatives in the Tri-state.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been released.
