Sgt. 1st Class William A. Zapfe of Muldraugh, Ky. has died in his service to America.
Zapfe died June 19, 2007 in Muhammad al Ali, Iraq, of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.
The 35-year-old Zapfe was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division out of Fort Stewart, Ga.
