A Tri-state marine has been killed in Iraq.

Corporal Tyler Warndorf, 21, of Hebron, died Tuesday while serving in the country's western Anbar Province.

9News did a story with Tyler's family after he was featured in newspapers across the country when an associated press photographer had taken photos of Tyler and his unit while on patrol in Iraq.

Tyler was serving in and around Ramadi, which is a very dangerous area where the majority of insurgent attacks take place.

In June, the A.P. published photos of Tyler while on night patrol.

This was his second tour in Iraq.

The 21-year-old attended Conner High School.

The marines informed his family of his death Tuesday night.

His dad passed away ten years ago and he is survived by his mom, his brother Nick and sister Katelyn along with numerous other family members.

His mom Tina told 9News she got to talk to her son the night before he was killed and as he had said from the beginning, he believed in what he was doing in Iraq and was making a difference.

When the A.P. photos first came out, he e-mailed his mom and said, "How crazy is this that I made the paper?"

He went onto say he was sorry that she didn't get to see his eyes and smile that she misses.

He was due to come home very soon.
