There is one point that everyone is missing here. If the breeder was a responsible breeder, then she knows that you do NOT sell a puppy that has not had all the puppy shots, PERIOD. Also, if she is such a responsible breeder, then why didn't she put the health guarantee in writing? We do need to change the laws to protect those that cannot protect themselves. Irresponsible breeders and puppy mills are a HUGE problem and need to be held accountable. Thousands of animals die every year but these people just keep on breeding because of their own greed.

I know Michelle too! Along with most of the other breeder/ brokers in the area. I've seen her sit up for days with little hopeless puppies that don't have a chance to live, but she keeps trying. I think Spicer shouldn't own a dog. Did you know that Hypoglycemia when left untreated or when it continues to be a problem can cause the same symptoms as parvo? Well it can. But those vets wouldn't make any money off of that. Because it's hopeless, the puppy goes into organ (Kidney, Liver) failure and you can't reverse it. Look it up on the internet- I know what I'm talking about. No way one puppy came up with parvo. And the other (asdfg) puppy that was with Spicer's yorkie puppy - the one that developed loose stool in the first week, was just being affected by the protozoans that already live in the puppies system, not a viral infection. You can look that up on the internet too. They would be under Coccidiosis and Giardia. People just don't understand all the things involved with new puppy care. Why don't they ever die at the breeders?? Cause we take care of them. People need to be more educated on small/young puppy care. Maybe they have had some sick or "not perfect" pups, but look how many happy healthy ones they have placed/sold into good homes. There's good and bad with everything. Most of you people making the negative comments about breeders need to get a life or a hobby!!!! Wow! When's the last time any of you righteous dog owners wormed your own dog?? Be honest? That's what I thought...Oh and I know what the article is about and I wrote what I wanted you do-gooders to read! A lemon law wouldn't solve anything. Educating new pet owners on care of their new family member might help. Guidelines for breeders that are followed up on might help too. Vets need to be more honest and more reasonable, then maybe people could afford more for their pets! :) Whitetc, it sounds like your puppy had a liver shunt :( Good luck getting a new baby :)

The breeder only contacted Spicer AFTER her representation contacted them...they say they are going to pay her back, but we'll see. No sign of a check yet. This article doesn't cover the entirety of this story, trust!

My puppy was in a playpen with Spicer's yorkie and was sick within the first week of bringing him home. He may of not had parvo, but she still sent home a sick puppy. I really think my puppy was strong enough to fight off any diseases he may have received. There are too many coincidences-there are too many people commenting on the negative experiences with this breeder. I do not believe the reason my puppy was sick was because of new surroundings...he was miserable. He wouldn't eat and just kept having diarrhea. Luckily he did get better. People are just trying to make it known to be careful to purchase a puppy from this breeder.

hey ukcatsndogs guess what the breeders did contact spicer. They did offer her her money back. I have seen her facilities and they are clean. Spicer knows her puppy was well when she bought it. I have seen the puppies the yorkie was with and not one other puppy has come down with parvo. Now explain that.

Hey Tony...if you read the story...the 6 other dogs that Spicer's were in contact with are puppies; puppies she was kept in the same playpen with. Why would she lie about how her dog died? I would question the truthfulness of your "friends." I find it interesting that you are a friend of Michelle's and know the other side to the story when she never even spoke to Spicer after the purchase..and returned no calls. It's sad that they showed ZERO compassion for this.

Tony...I got my dog from her in 2000 and I am not a liar. I still have the invoice signed by Michelle Singlegton. The house that I went to when I got my dog was on Fields Ertel. Maybe even her friends have been fooled by her as well.

First of all there are 2 sides to every story. I am a friend of Michelles and know the other side of the story too. Ms. Spicer hasn't been entirely truthful about everything. She said that her other dog had been hit by a car and died, but apparently it died from a freak accident in her garage. Also, the yorkie puppy was up to date on shots and wormings(it was only old enough to have its first of four puppy shots} and it was Spicers choice to take the puppy before its vet check, It had an appointment later that afternoon. Spicer was informed of all of the special needs and precautions of adopting a small breed puppy, but didn't care to heed the warnings of exposing a puppy to places and other animals that could be dangerous. Spicer had the yorkie pup around 6 other dogs that could have carried any disease to that puppy. She was warned about taking the pup around other dogs, and then wants to blame someone else for her pups illness. Any breeder that wants to give a guarantee against comminicable diseases is taking a big risk when the buyers wont listen to advice about protecting their puppy from exposure to these diseases. Michelle had 3 other litters of puppies at the time that the Yorkie was purchased and not a single one was or has gotten sick to this day. Parvo is an extremely contagious disease and it is almost impossible to have only one little yorkie puppy come down with it and no others. As for the other people that supposedly got a sick puppy from them, there was one other call about a puppy that went to the vet and was diagnosed with depression from leaving the litter. Michelle has only lived in this house for 5 years so all of the other people that claim to have gotten a puppy before 2004 are lying. Any one that deals with dogs on a regular basis is going to come across diseases at some time or another. Placing blame for a sick animal is a hard thing to do. If you look at the facts in both sides of this case, your decision should be much easier.

Everyone is losing sight of what this article is about. If you are commenting on the content of the article you clearly have no journalistic background. You probably don't even have the education to write a sentence let alone a whole story and you have the nerve to comment on the journalism and you are stupid enough to think that this is about the owner of the poor puppy, it is about puppy breeding. If you make comments about the owner you are clearly dealing with personal issues of your own and maybe you should concentrate on that instead of bashing someone you don’t know. This breeder should not be able to breed dogs, an animal died due to there inability to have a sanitary environment that is the point of the story. If you don’t write the news then don’t bother commenting on someone else’s writing ability, they caught your attention so they did their job
