Why is this even news? This is a private school and they have their rules. The media attention smells like political posturing to me.

What in the world! No way should this teen be suspended. For goodness sakes; he is a teenager and they are suppose to do these kinds of things. This is just another fine example of public school systems or private systems trying to control our lives and our kids lives. I bet the principal when he was young went to his prom, had a girlfriend, and got into social events when he was younger and as an adult now; I bet he still does. Im just so sick and tired of this country and the people in it trying to tell us what we as free americans can and cannot do. Its time we stand up and take control back. I would like to let these two kids know that I will stand beside you and support you.

Remember these are rules set by men, not God. Hope he and his girlfriend had a great time with wonderful memories to look back on their prom. Now does this school forbid him going into restuarants where women or girls may be wearing tight clothing, etc., or how about the malls. Can he go to the malls and not sin. I know my son went to a Christian school very shortly and when I went to his basketball game I was the only parent in jeans. The women were in the bleachers with their skirts on and you could see a lot more than me in my jeans. I was looked at like I came naked to the game. There is going to be temptations all around us in this world and we can't live our lives with our head in the sand. God intended for us to enjoy life and to know how to act and present ourselves in a Christ like manner. I am sure when Jesus turned water into wine at the wedding there was music and dancing at the marriage celebration he was at. I don't approve of people who make up rules in the name of Christianity.

When outside of his "School", this young man should be able to participate in any legal activity he wants or that his parents let him. He did not break any rules while in actual school so everyone's argument that they “knew” the rules is pure BS. If he was dancing, drinking or flipping up girls skirts in class that’s another thing altogether. Remember, the Orthodox Christian Church was the first, the rest of this BS is just spin offs and look what you get. Rules made by man to control man. The Orthodox Church encourages thinking and interacting with the Church in a positive way; not like all you guilt tripped lemmings who are scared to step on ants or make love to your spouse. How sick and twisted.

What I don't understand, if this is a rule, and the principal had such an issue with this, why did he sign the permission slip? The school found out because the school having the prom requires all people attending, that don't go to the school, to get their school principal's signature saying it is okay for them to attend. Had the principal not signed it- Tyler would be forced to stay home. There really was no need for suspension or keeping him from participating in graduation. Instead the principal signs it- then goes to the school board which decides to threaten the kid with suspension. They had to know this was going to cause a huge mess that would hit the media! Sounds to me like they aren't too confident in their teachings especially if they can’t trust a kid that attended their school K-12 to avoid the dark side- resist "lustful" situations while going to a prom. LOL Who knows, maybe the school needed the publicity to attract more people who want their kids to only follow rules-not think for themselves. I wonder if their tuition numbers are down. LOL

SUA totally true, Blame the women, men take no responsibility. Praise the Lord.

Perhaps taking a stand for what he believes in was more important than following school rules. A lot of people have said, "If he doesn't like the rules, he should change schools!" The article never mentioned what his parents thought- perhaps they told him he couldn't change schools. So in the face of adversity, he thought a little suspension could'nt compare with missing his girlfriend's Prom. I think it's funny really- the movie Footloose coming back to haunt us!

The principal of Heritage Christian: "The question as I see it is, should a Christian place themselves at an event where young ladies will have low cut dresses and be dancing in them?" All other points aside, OF COURSE it's the woman's fault if a man cannot control his "sinful" thoughts and behaviors. How repulsively sexist. Sidenote: This educator's grammar could use some work.
