BERRIEN SPRINGS, Mich. (AP) -- A 32-year-old Berrien Springs man who authorities say spit on a sheriff deputy's McDonald's breakfast sandwich has been sentenced to 60 days behind bars in the case.
A judge on Friday sentenced Jacob Skipworth, with credit for 38 days served in jail. He pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor food law violation last month. A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt, but is treated as such for sentencing purposes.
Skipworth must also pay fines and costs of $103 and restitution of $661.
Police say Skipworth was working the drive-thru window at the southwestern Michigan restaurant when the Berrien County deputy bit into an Egg McMuffin on June 3 and realized something was wrong.
Skipworth, a parolee who spent 14 years in an Indiana prison, maintained his innocence.
