2 Police Chiefs Charged In Sarah Jessica Parker Case

Last Update: 8/01/2009 1:56 am
The tables have turned on two Ohio police chiefs – and it's playing out like a Hollywood soap opera.

Martins Ferry Police Chief Barry Carpenter and Bridgeport Police Chief Chad
Dojack were arraigned Friday in an alleged scheme involving the surrogate mother for Sarah Jessica Parker's children.

Officials say Carpenter removed several items from the surrogate mother's home, then he and Dojack tried to sell them to photographers.

"It is extremely troubling that persons sworn to uphold the law and protect the public are now charged with violating those oaths,” said special prosecutor T. Shawn Hervey

Both Carpenter and Dojack pleaded not guilty to burglary charges.

The mayor of Martins Ferry says he still considers carpenter the working police chief, though he may be suspended.

Parker and husband Matthew Broderick issued a statement saying they have complete faith in the legal system.
