MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- Middletown Police say they have stopped a 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy who were on a vicious crime spree.
"My daughter was sobbing, crying, all shook up," said Jennifer Fields.
Fields is talking about how her 15-year-old daughter came home Saturday night to tell her that she and a friend had been robbed walking near Charles Street.
The girls say they were approached by someone who got out of an orange SUV. The girls don't want to be identified.
"A guy jumped out. Forced them at gunpoint to the ground, patted them down and took their belongings and then took off," said Middletown Police Major Mark Hoffman.
Investigators said about a half-hour before the girls were robbed and a few blocks away, teenagers matching the same description held up three people behind an apartment home on Central Avenue.
Officers investigating the robberies said they found the teenage suspects nearby in an orange Land Rover. When they tried to stop the teens they say the two sped off and a chase began.
The chase was recorded on a cruiser camera.
According to investigators, the teenager behind the wheel of the stolen SUV does have a driver's license.
After about three minutes he crashed into a light pole and the two suspected teen robbers run.
They didn't get far before they were stopped.
Fields has some serious questions for the two boys.
"I would like to know what was going through their minds or what kind of drugs they were on? Where were their parents?," she asked.
Investigators said they have recovered the two loaded handguns used in the robberies.
"It's sort of unreal they would have that type of weapons," said Hoffman.
"These were two dangerous individuals, especially for being so young, so it's important that we caught these guys,” he said.
“If we hadn't stopped them, I suspect they would have kept on that night and probably into the future," Hoffman said.
The teenage suspects are being held in juvenile detention.
They are each facing five robbery charges.
