Police: Fleeing Driver Crashes Into Monument

Last Update: 9/03 1:19 am
A teenage driver is under arrest after allegedly leading police on a chase overnight that ended when he crashed into a Northern Kentucky monument.

The chase began just after 2 a.m. Wednesday when a Florence Police officer saw a car traveling north on Dixie Highway from the Turfside Motel without its lights on and attempted to pull it over.

According to police, the 16-year-old driver refused to stop for the officer and sped off into the City of Erlanger.

Police say the teen was driving so fast that he lost control of the car while attempting to turn left onto Commonwealth Avenue. As a result, the car ran into a memorial monument at the corner of Commonwealth and Dixie Highway.

The driver was not seriously injured and crews treated him at the scene. His name has not been released.

Once police took him into custody, they also discovered the car was stolen. As a result, the teen now faces multiple charges, including receiving stolen property and fleeing and evading.
