The body of Staff Sargeant Nicholas Carnes arrived at the General Aviation hangar at the Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International Airport.
The native of Dayton, Kentucky was killed by enemy fire on August 26 in Afghanistan.
Emotions were strong for Staff Sargeant Carnes' family and friends as his casket was taken off the plane.
With a lone bagpiper playing, U.S. Army pall bearers carried Carnes' casket to a nearby hearse.
Afterward a motorcade escorted the casket off airport property, down Tower Drive and onto Donaldson Highway.
Along the way, people lined the route showing their support.
The funeral for Staff Sargeant Carnes will be held at 10 A.M. Tuesday morning at the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption in Covington.
Carnes left behind many friends, and his family, including his wife, Terri.
