WAKARUSA, Ind. (AP) -- President Barack Obama is promoting a "made in America" theme as part of the effort to turn the economy around.
In Indiana today, the president unveiled a plan today to help revive the economy by investing in electric-car manufacturing.
This effort calls for $2.4 billion in grants for the national electric-car industry, which would come from the stimulus money already approved by Congress.
Obama addressed employees at Monaco RV near the border of Indiana and Michigan. The biggest portions of the grants will be going to those states to create jobs.
The unemployment rate in Indiana's Elkhart-Goshen area is 16.8 percent, up 10 points from last year. Overall, the U.S. unemployment rate is the highest its been in 26 years.
