A Milford company hopes its new low-wind speed turbine will bring a new form of energy to the Tri-state.

Workers have already begun installing the 60-foot tall base of the turbine at the Melink Corporation.

It says it is the first in North America.

The blades have a diameter of 60-feet when completed.

And it will let the company store the energy it generates.

"These blades are oversized, so they can actually operate in lower wind speeds of three to four miles an hour," said Steve Melink, president of the Melink Corporation. "So even on a day like this, you can feel there's a slight wind going. It should be enough to get this turbine working for us."

The company specializes in energy-efficient products for the construction industry.

They'll also be testing the low-wind speed turbine to see if it's a marketable source of renewable energy for the area.
