West Chester's newest business has gone green.

The Savannah Center, an event facility located off of Union Centre Boulevard, has officially opened its doors.

A Geothermal heating and cooling system installed in the lake behind the building is expected to cut the amount of energy the building uses in half.

On a hot day, pumps and fans can pull the hot air from the building into the lake and then into the surrounding earth.

On a cold day, the heat from the ground is pumped into the building.

George Rees, the Savannah Center CEO told 9News, "I think the neatest things is to understand that that lake and the earth have the capability of heating and cooling this 44 square foot building."

The Geothermal system also runs the refrigerators and freezers in the facility's kitchen.

The $14-million building has capacity to serve 1,200 people at a sit down dinner.
