The three leading causes of death in the U.S. are well-known ailments and conditions: heart disease, cancer, and stroke. But there is another that is less well known…or at least talked about. Now, some families want to tell their stories and they’re telling them to the I-Team.
“It’s the 4th largest killer in the U.S.,” says Betsy McCaughy. She’s a medical patient advocate and she’s talking about infections. Infections people got after they’ve walked through the doors of a hospital, clinic, or outpatient facility. Infections, McCaughy say, that are completely preventable.
Coming up Monday on 9 News at 6 p.m., I-Team reporter Hagit Limor investigates the nationwide problem of infections contracted within our medical facilities.
“We’re doing everything we can to prevent them,” says one health professional. But is that true? Some are saying no. Hear what our local health officials say they’re doing to make you safer under their care.
