The American Heart Association is sending out a call for all of us for “Start! Eating Healthy Day,” this Wednesday, November 4.

The AHA reminds us that nearly 70% of American adults are overweight, and nearly 30% are obese.

Obesity is a major risk for heart disease, which is our nation's number one killer.

So the American Heart Association is promoting good nutrition and physical activity as an important step toward heart health.

Here are a few recommendations:

  •   Use up as many calories as you take in.

  •   Eat a variety of nutritious foods from all the food groups.

  •   Choose more nutrient-rich foods, such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

  •   Eat less of high-calorie, low-nutrient foods.
