It was a night for celebrating the short life of a young cancer victim from the Tri-State, and appreciating the touching memories she left behind.
Elena Desserich lost her battle with brain cancer in 2007, but while she was sick Elena wrote love notes to her family.
Her parents compiled the notes into a book that was released nationally on Tuesday.
A book signing party for “Notes Left Behind” took place Tuesday night at the Rookwood Pavilion Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Norwood.
Keith Desserich, Elena's father, says the book has helped his family heal.
“It certainly allows us to help others, and in the end, you know, sometimes helping others is the best way to help ourselves,” he said.
“Notes Left Behind” has pre-sold over 150,000 copies, and will be printed in 13 languages.
As many as 350 books were sold at Tuesday evening's event.
Proceeds will go toward funding pediatric brain cancer research through “The Cure Starts Now.”
