PHILADELPHIA--New research may persuade pregnant women to get flu shots. Three studies show that an influenza vaccination for an expectant mother leads to bigger babies who are less likely to get the flu.

The research was presented at the annual meeting of the Infectious Diseases Society of America.

Dr. Marietta Vazquez of the Yale University of Medicine says the issue is important, because the proportion of pregnant women getting vaccinated is 'dismal,' fewer than one in four.
