onemorethought.. It's the county's mismanagement of their funds for years and years and years that's created this problem... AKA si leis' mismanagement. There has been a known fiscal problem for years. Unfortunately, a lot of money was wasted on pushing a jail tax that failed more than once, on top of double dippers, etc... The cars that have the plate readers are with the City of Cincinnati, who manages their money entirely differently. There is still hiring within CPD's police department scheduled for 2009.. not layoffs. Perhaps the Sheriff could focus some of his efforts on learning from what it is that CPD is doing correctly with money. Furthermore, it's pretty ignorant not to encourage proactive behavior from our police officers. Just because there's no room left in the jail means they should stop proactively pursuing their jobs?

arbortrail trust me they are out searching for criminals. I thought that too until my son flew with them. I asked does that go out for just practice runs it is always out he said No Way Mom they are out tracking down bad guys. I know when I lived in Colerain that thing would hover over our street when I saw that I knew to lock all our doors and windows right away because someone was being chased and I did not want them gaining access to my house. Now some of those other toys that the county has we can do without. What kills me are the police depts. that have the camera on their cars that run all the license plates as they go down the street. Why are we spending thousands and thousands of dollars for those things to be added to the cars? We have no jail to put them in so why continue to purchase all that equipment!

We have all the cut backs in Hamilton county, but Sheriff Leis still has his helicopter that flies him around all day & night. We live in Springfielf Township and it flies low over the house day and night - early morning 1AM at times.

I agree totally onemorethought. It sad things are the way they are. I wish I didnt have to buy my security system, update locks on my house, make sure my yard barn is locked, and purchase things like the Predator Trac report to protect my family. I thought that's what we paid all our taxes for. We can't dictate what elected officials do but we can try to see they don't get in next time.

As stated earlier, we need to give the boot to Leis. As a diehard conservative, and a young one at that, we need a fresh change of leadership, we're going to have enough problems with Obama in the White House, lets kick Leis out of our house!

Come on we need law enforcement NOW more then ever. With the numerous job loss and unemployment the crime is going to go up there will be more thefts etc. Why in the heck are we closing down jails and cutting the police force. What happened to all the money city council found a few weeks ago? They said they were not going to make any cuts! Hamilton County better wake up and get their priorities straight or we are all in for a rude awakening! Everyone better head out and get their CCW's since there are no police to protect us we better make sure we can protect ourselves!

I think the reality is that we as citizens will have to do more for ourselves. I have a friend that works for Predator Trac (They find the sex offenders that are living in our neighborhoods undetected by the police)and he told me that the Hamilton County Sheriffs Office said they didn't want Predator Trac's help (free) and they have their own people who look after these offenders, yet they lay off, and I expect will lay off more. I think we are going to have to do more for ourselves as we cannot rely on law enforcement as much as we used to. They do not have enough officers, and crime and the population continue to rise.

Here's a thought, let's break the curse of patronage and birth right and kick Jr. out of there the next time he's up for a vote! We need a new sheriff, with new ideas about fixing Cincy's crime problems.
