If you, like a lot of Tri Staters, have a Macy's store credit card -- that used to be a Lazarus card or similar--check any mailings from Macy’s very, very carefully!
Several published reports say Macy's is sending out unexpected Mastercards to certain, longtime customers.
In many cases, the customer did not want another credit card.
The Minneapolis Star Tribune investigated...and says Macy's is converting 3.5 million charge accounts to Mastercards, as part of its new partnership with Citigroup.
The report says the cards are going only to customers who have not used Macy's store card in past 2 years.
A Macy's spokesperson says a letter explains the change, and gives customers the option of "opting out" of Mastercard. But note that you must “opt out” ... if you simply toss the letter, without reading it, you WILL get a Mastercard.
Shop a lot? Then no need to worry: Macy's 24 million active card holders are not affected by this.
