Time Warner Cable Changes Confuse Some Viewers

What's going on with Time Warner Cable? A number of Southwest Ohio local viewers have been asking us that... after finding channels jumping around on their dial lately!

If you have Digital cable, Time Warner is adding more and more High Def channels, which is great news.

But customers still on Analog cable are finding some channels shifting...and are asking us what happened to CNN Headline News. Some are asking us if Time Warner has dropped it!

Where is CNN Headline News?

Good news: Time Warner is not dropping anything at this point. The company tells me it has simply moved CNN Headline news, to help its most basic customers.

"Basic" analog cable subscribers now get their local channels plus CNN Headline news. The only downside: To do that, CSPAN-2, or "Book TV," is no longer on basic...It's now CNN Headline instead.

"Standard" analog cable subscribers will see CNN Headline on Channel 10, with nothing yet on Ch 55, where Headline used to be.  One downside...it's harder to surf from CNN to Headline to Fox news, as all three used to be side by side in a row.

And just to add to the confusion: CNN Headline is changing its name to HLN, short for Headline News.  Of course, to some viewers, that sounds like yet another home shopping channel, adding even more confusion.

Free High Def Channels

One more bonus for basic and standard analog cable subscribers: If you have a High Def TV, Time Warner sends a free High Def version of channel 9... On 9.1.

The cable company says these changes, while a bit confusing, are a win win for subcribers.

So don't waste your money!  I'm John Matarese.
