We're dealing with all sorts of new government programs this year: Cash for Clunkers, foreclosure help, possibly a new health care plan.
Another one: The new
Passport Cards, which are supposed to make travel to Mexico and Canada easier. But just like with those other government ideas....this one comes with its share of problems as well.
Mexico-Bound Family signs up for "Cards"
Sherry and Whitney Housley were planning a mother-daughter trip of a lifetime: a beautiful seaside resort in Cozumel, Mexico. Their first stop: a local post office, to get a Passport.
Sherry says the clerk at the counter "asked if we wanted to the Passport or Passport Card." The women tell me the clerk told them one of the new Passport Cards would be quicker, cheaper, and more convenient than the old bulky Passport book.
So they said: sure. Sherry says "for our purposes the Passport Card seemed fine. It was a little less expensive, seemed fine."
Vacation RuinedBut when they tried to check in at the airport....the Housleys were stunned. They say a Delta clerk told them they
couldn't board their flight, because their Passport Cards were no good for a flight to Mexico.
"We got there and our passport card was denied. They wouldn't let you on the pane? Wouldn't let us on the plane."
